Description: Shelley Zimmerman, San Diego Assistant Chief of Police Department will be speaking about her lifeís adventures at Congregation Bínai Tikvah on Friday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 pm. This event will launch Congregation Bínai Tikvahís new "L'Chayim Series" which focuses on the realities of 'Life'.

This event is free and open to the public. Congregation Bínai Tikvah is Located at 830 S. Melrose Dr. in Vista, with the entrance off Branding Iron Rd.

A member of the Jewish community, Assistant Chief Shelley Zimmerman is a 29-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department. Assistant Chief Zimmerman has a degree in Criminal Justice from Ohio State University and is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Some of Assistant Chief Zimmermanís prior assignments have included Vice, Narcotics, Internal Affairs, Multi-Cultural Community Relations Office, the Mayorís Executive Protection Detail, The Narcotics Task Force and the Field Lieutenant position. She has assisted in the security planning for several large events in San Diego such as the Super Bowl, Republican National Convention, major conferences and the 4th of July holiday at the beach.

In 1983, Assistant Chief Zimmerman received the San Diego Press Club Headliner of the year award for her undercover work at an area high school. Assistant Chief Zimmerman has also received numerous Exceptional Performance and Commanding Officer Citations throughout her career. She recently received the San Diego Business Journalís Women Who Mean Business Award.

Assistant Chief Zimmerman currently oversees the Neighborhood Policing section and is also the Departmentís liaison with the Gang Commission, STAR-PAL, The San Diego Police Foundation, Crime Stoppers, Labor Relations, the Hotel/Motel Association and the Chiefís Community Advisory Boards. She is an avid sports fan and is currently training for her next triathlon.
