Each grade is assigned a Core Class, The Core Class will meet for ONE period each week and each student in the particular grade level is required to enroll in it. In addition to the Core Class, each HSJS student will be able to choose from a list of semester-long Electives. These Electives are pen to all grades.
Classes will start at 7:00 om and end at 8:40 pm with each session lasting for 4 minutes. The break will run from 7:45 pm until 7:55 pm.

Eighth Grade:
Hevra for one semester and Sex, Drugs, Hip Hop and Judaism for the second semester

At HSJS you will be able to ask the questions, share your thoughts with other 8th graders, apply Jewish guidelines to decision making and lean the ropes in the classroom and on the Ropes Challenge Course better known as the 8t grad adventure,

Partners in Prevention
What does Judaism and Torah teachings have to do with addiction and self destructive behavior? In partnership with Beit Tshuvah in L. A. we will teach you how Judaism paves the way to self-acceptance, self-growth, spiritual values and family harmony.

Tenth Grade:
East County: Confirmation with the Rabbis
Better known as 21st Century Judaism and Kabbalat Torah, these classes are taught to their congregants b Rabbi rosenthal and Rabbi Lawson respectively. The focus is on renewing commitment to Jewish tradition and understanding of what our tradition requires of us, and a milestone in Jewish learning.
North County: Jewish Civics Initiative
How are laws made and changed in the United States? Who speaks for the poor and homeless? How can teenagers become advocates and spokespeople for those who do not have a voice in our society?
A four-day seminar in Washington, D.C. is a sure way t find the answers and an important step toward earning lots of community service points!
Eleventh Grade and Twelfth Grade:
The Holocaust and Human Behavior
The Holocaust has shaped who we are today and our collective commitment to never let it happen again. However,knowing that the Holocaust happened is only the beginning in understanding why it happened.
This class is also the preparatory step for the March of the Living, a first hand encounter with the horrors of concentration camps and the lost Jewish communities of Europe.
Seminar: Jewish Issues and Israel Advocacy on Campus
How are you going to manage the new freedom and the new responsibilities and still remain Jewish?
How are you going to answer those who confront you aggressively and with ill-placed confidence about the 'evil' Israel that is a usurper of Arab lands bent on denying Palestinians their due? If you don't keep an open mind and if you don't acquire knowledge, you won't be able to advocate coherently for Israel whether or not you agree with all hr actions or policies.
