The Graduate Program provides an opportunity for students of the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School to continue their study. In some cases, non Melton students may also participate. These classes allow a greater focus and deeper examination of selected Jewish texts and topics, from the Biblical to the modern. The Graduate Program invites you to study in more depth some of the topics that were only touched upon in the Melton core curriculum. |
October and November
"CONQUEST AND REBELLION"
The Books of Joshua and Judges
The story of the conquest of the Promised Land is told in two installments, one in Joshua and one in Judges. Unfortunately, these two accounts present very different images of the "conquest" of the land. We will examine these books to see the different points of view, and to read some GREAT stories!

January and February
"BIBLICAL WITCHES, EVIL QUEENS & HEROINES"
Even though the Bible was generated in a male dominated society, some of the most interesting characters in the Bible are women. We will read about a witch that raises the dead, about two Israelite queens, one evil and one good, and about a couple of heroines that decapitate their enemies. All these stories will be put into their historical context so that we might better understand the society from which they came.

March and April
"LIONS, FIRES, DRAGONS & ANGELS"
The Book of Daniel
There is perhaps no book of the Bible that has generated more mystical speculation than Daniel. This book is full of miracles, prophecies, and fascinating stories. It is the one Biblical book whose writing is most precisely located in history. This class will be a fun ride though some crazy territory.
